Re-cap of this week's Newsletters
Hey Techies! In case you may have missed this week’s Newsletters, here is a recap:
Discord Data Breach Suzuki Motorcycle India Cyberattack
Discord Data Breach 2023
Discord is notable as an instant messaging and social media platform. The breach was the result of a compromised third-party support agent account. During the breach, the support ticket queue of the affected agent was exposed, potentially exposing user email addresses, customer service messages, and any attachments shared within the tickets. As soon as Discord became aware of the incident, they took immediate action by disabling the compromised account and conducting thorough malware checks on the affected machine.
Discord has reached out to affected users, notifying them about the breach and the possibility of their email addresses and support ticket information being exposed to a third party. To prevent future incidents, Discord has collaborated with their customer service partner to implement enhanced security measures.
Suzuki Motorcycle India Cyberattack
We bring you important news concerning a recent data breach that has impacted Suzuki Motorcycle India, one of the leading bike manufacturers in the country. The company was forced to halt production of tens of thousands of vehicles due to a cyberattack that occurred earlier this May.
According to reports, the breach resulted in a delay of production for over 20,000 vehicles, compelling Suzuki Motorcycle India to temporarily suspend its assembly lines.
As the fifth-largest bike and scooter maker in India, Suzuki Motorcycle India plays a significant role in the automotive industry, employing thousands of staff and boasting an impressive annual production capacity. Commonly, cybercriminals employ double-extortion tactics, pressuring victims to pay a ransom by gradually leaking stolen data. In the case of manufacturing companies, disrupting production is a favored strategy, as downtime and potential losses can outweigh the cost of the ransom.
